I'm an adventurer, and I want to help you to be an adventurer too. That's why I made this blog. I want to help more travelers find adventure, adventure they may not even know they're looking for.
Type Two Travel comes from the idea of "Type Two Fun" - fun that is fun to look back on. It's probably easiest to explain in contrast to Type One fun:
Time One Fun is eating ice cream or setting off a firework - it's fun while you do it - the moment is naturally filled with joy.
Type Two Fun is getting caught in a rain storm with your friends or a really hard hike - the moment may not be naturally filled with joy, but it's always fun to look back on.
I have loved these classifications of fun since the day I learned them. I think a lot about shifting my mindset so Type Two Fun becomes Type One Fun; if it's going to be fun to look back on, you might as well have fun in the moment!
I like traveling. My travel experiences are quite varied, so the trips covered on this site are also quite varied. That's actually not great for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - but I don't care. I'm a "generalist", and my blog will reflect that.
That's why you might run into a surf trip followed by an off-trail backpacking trip.
When I travel, I do a lot of research. My research process usually starts with "[insert destination] travel blog", and then "[insert destination] travel blog backpacking" and then "[insert destination] travel blog hiking".
It's funny, because I hate most travel blogs. Travel blogs are designed to make money, not help you. That's why people essentially write 5 articles on the same thing, that they probably haven't even done, just to maximize clicks and time spent on the site.
Occasionally, you do find a solid blog, and I truly think a good travel blog is the best way to research before a trip.
Some of my random favorites I've stumbled upon in the years are:
They keys are focusing on information, not SEO, and talking about cool things they have done.
So that is what I will try to do here. If you ever read something that doesn't fit this description, let me know and I'll edit it. Keep me honest.
